But it was so over-whipped that it was waxy on the upper part of the layer. It was even harder to cut with a fork, and certainly was not pleasant to try to chew. The shortening crust was so overworked and tough that it was extremely difficult to cut with my serrated pie server, that has a lot of weight and cuts through most any pie. Unfortunately, this pie was disappointing in every way.
Expensive, yes, but we hoped it would be worth it. We got a banana toffee cream pie (it had a fancier name) that looked delicious with a decorative crust and real whipped cream on top (not the dreaded whipped 'topping' that spells death to any pie, as far as I am concerned). But we were in the area for lunch and decided to try again, as we love baked goods.
It was 'just OK,' so we had not made a point to return. A couple of years ago we ordered a cake from this bakery.
